The World Made A Rainbow By Michelle Robinson

All the world had to stay home today. I wish they didn't. I wanted to play.

No one can argue that 2020 and now 2021 has been an unexpected time for all of us. We have all had to learn and new way of living, dealing with being separated from loved ones and get used to being within the same 4 walls. For little ones, it is hard for them to fully understand what is going on and why they are not going to school etc

The World Made A Rainbow, by Michelle Robinson and illustrated by Emily Hamilton, is a beautiful book telling the story of a little girl adjusting to the new way of life. Sad that she can't see family or friends, her and Mum start an art project to make rainbows to cheer everyone up. The art project opens a conversation between them about what they are missing, what they will do when they can go on adventures again and ends with them talking to the little girl's best friend on the computer.

The girls and I absolutely love this book. For me, I brought it as keepsake for them to remember the positives from such an unusual and difficult time. The illustrations are beautiful and colourful, the story is great for early readers and I love reading it to the girls. I think it a lovely book to capture the time in a positive and relatable way.

For the girls, they loved that they could relate to making the rainbows, walking past friends windows and seeing what they had made. I think it made them feel not so alone in their experience. It also was a great way to open a conversation about how they are feeling, missing family and friends, not being at school etc. Mia was so excited to see the little girl doing the same things that she was doing.

All rainstorms must end, and this rainstorm will, too
