I’m a born and bred Yorkshire girl and was brought up as a bit of a wildling in an old farmhouse on the North York moors. I studied Photojournalism and had big dreams of travelling all over the world and living in the jungle documenting unknown tribes, until I realised that I was too much of a homebody! Instead, I worked as a freelance photographer for 10 years before moving into the eCommerce sphere. After working for a few years running someone else’s business, I figured it was about time I ran my own instead. And so Salt + Steam was born!

Motherhood has been a rollercoaster! I’ve loved (almost) every second so far, but equally it’s been the hardest thing I’ve ever done. I struggled with some postpartum depression, and it made running a business with a newborn baby feel impossible (like it needed to be any harder!). Postpartum hormones are a wild and sometimes scary ride and I don’t think the effect they can have is talked about enough. Thankfully my incredibly supportive partner, family and friends helped me when I was feeling overwhelmed and whilst there are still challenging days, I feel like I’m starting to get into the swing of things

Although I knew I’d love my daughter, I didn’t realise just how strong and all-consuming those feelings of love could be. Another thing I found surprising - just how far baby poo can shoot across a room…!

All our products are handmade in our rural Yorkshire workshop by myself and my workshop assistant, Kaja.

100% natural, cruelty-free and vegan good stuff! We don’t use any harsh chemicals or unnecessary ingredients, so our products are pretty simple.

We spent a lot of time researching and testing our oil blends. Scent is a really personal thing, so we wanted to make sure there was something for everyone in our range. Our essential oils are chosen for their different uses as well as their scents - for example, lavender is relaxing whilst grapefruit is rejuvenating, rose is soothing and calming for skin and rosemary is great for focusing the mind.
