An affirmation is a positive statement that you make to yourself in order to change your beliefs and mindset. They can also be used as a tool to help you achieve your goals and overcome anxiety.
Affirmations are repeated, out loud or in your head, over and over again. The idea is that these repeated statements will eventually become ingrained in our subconscious and influence our actions and beliefs—for the better!
When you are using affirmations for to create a feeling of positivity, it is important to use them every day. Add them in to your morning routine before you get out of bed or when your leaving the house for the school run. Then repeat them again at night before bed, maybe after some deep breaths or yoga movements. It can also be beneficial to write them down and post them somewhere you will see them on a regular basis.
Did you know in every Super Mumma order you receive your own affirmation card to put somewhere in your house, so that you can see it everyday.
You can also say them out loud or in your head, whichever feels more natural for you. When speaking them aloud, try doing so in a way that makes you feel good about yourself as opposed to beating yourself up over perceived faults and flaws (for example, saying "I am beautiful" instead of "I hate how I look"). The more often you say an affirmation, the quicker its effects will be felt; therefore it's important not only to use them daily but also multiple times per day if possible!
When writing affirmations:
- Make them positive and in the present. E.g Instead of saying 'I will feel calm' say 'I am calm and relaxed'
- Make the affirmation believable and realistic. If you don't believe the affirmation, it will be less effective. It's important to gradually work towards the affirmation rather than expecting an overnight change.
- Keep it short and simple. It's easier to remember and repeat short phrases
It's important to remember that being a mum is a challenging and rewarding journey, and it's normal to have moments of doubt and uncertainty. Affirmations can help boost your confidence and remind you of your strengths as a mother.
Affirmations are a simple and quick tool to use as part of your mental wellbeing toolkit to help overcome an emotion you are feeling in the moment or to set you day up for a more positive feeling.
